Blog Action Day 2008-Fight Poverty

Empty your pockets, little girlImage by dlemieux via FlickrThis is something that is near and dear to my heart. Poverty is a huge issue, and one that is preventable. Instead of boring you with facts and figures, please just do whatever you can to help out those less fortunate then you. Whether that is donating to the Salvation Army bell-ringers this upcoming holiday season, or donating millions of dollars to a nonprofit, just do what you can. Check out more posts from Blog Action Day, and take today to think about what you can do.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

So, this last weekend I went through some major changes in my life.
1. I decided to step down from Student Congress
2. I decided to step down from Management and Economics

These two groups, which have been defining in my college career thus far, both turned sour. I tried to stick it out, and change them from the inside, but at the end of the day all they did was upset me. My business partner, Joe, said "I don't remember the last time they made you happy."

This means that I will have more time for my true love, which is business. fahrenHEIGHT360 and Next Generation Cigars both should benefit from these changes.

I sent in the letters just 5 minutes ago, and I feel the stress leaving already.

Musings on group work

As a student, I end up working on a group project more often than not. Teachers say this builds team-building, but their is a serious flaw in that logic. In my 14 years of experience as a student, groups usually work in the same way:

1. Members do not care about "teamwork." They care about not doing work.
2. Someone always ends up getting stuck doing a majority of the work.
3. That person is usually the one that cares about eh grade the most.
4. That person is usually the most involved (extracurricular) of the group, and doesn't have time to take on the extra work.

Yes, I tended to be the person that got work dumped on them, and it is happening again. Not cool.
